Greetings, Bearers!

No, contrary to possible rumors,I wasn’t hung over from Thanksgiving all that time (I’m really not a drinker anyway).  Instead, I’ve been busting tail writing The Summoning of Bherta as well as a couple of other short stories that I might be releasing as a little 99 cent side piece for your enjoyment.  😀

I’ve also got some reading time put aside, and intend to get back into a good book.  Recently I’ve been re-reading J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Silmarillion (The only book of Tolkien’s that I’ve ever read all the way through, incidentally), and also picked up a new copy of a novel recommended to me by a friend entitled The Rat King by B.W. Hankinson. This latter book intrigued me, as the friend who recommended it compared it to A Game of Thrones, and while I have mixed thoughts about what I’ve seen so far from the George R.R. Martin epic (I’ll be putting those thoughts up sometime soon), I do have to admit that the medieval mythos has become a bit more alluring to me in recent days (Blame it on my friendship with people who read a lot of Tolkien, and my recent discovery of the television series Camelot; again a show that has elements both attractive and dissuasive to me).   Perhaps it’s the weaponry. I’m rather fond of firearms, but there is something beautiful and elegant about a sword and other hand-to-hand weapons that a gun just doesn’t always convey.  In either case, I’m looking forward to a second trip into the history of Middle Earth, as well as this new and fascinating fantasy that Hankinson puts forth.

And, in addition, I’ve been getting ready for the Advent season and Christmas, one of my favorite times of year.  Granted, I’d probably like it a whole lot more if that dreaded white stuff didn’t slick up the roads and turn me into a paranoid freak who dreads getting behind the wheel every time a flake or two falls to the ground, but all of that aside I do like Christmas  (Ever had a Christmas in Hawaii?  It can be done without snow!)

So writing is going along well.  Editing for The Summoning of Kran has been a bit slower as a result, though, but in light of the fact that people seem to be enjoying Alternate Endings, that’s okay.  Looks like the third novel in the Vein series might not be released until next January.  Sorry about the later release, but I’m taking my time editing it, and I’d rather it be late and done right than rushed out to you and look slipshod and reckless in its presentation and content.  So if you’re anxious, bear with me; it WILL get done!

Also, as a result of my fervor for getting stories put out first and foremost, the Vein Omnibus has been put on hold for a little while.  Don’t worry, though: those of you who have been asking will get more information put up from the Omnibus soon.  The problem with the holiday season is that, in the process of buying and wrapping gifts (Yes, I wrap gifts… I heard that laughter over there in Chicago!), saying “hi” and “bye” to every single person at every single party, and fighting a losing battle with LED lights that have a shorter lifespan than a red shirt crewman from Star Trek, I’m forced to choose between writing, editing, and omnibus development.  And given the choice, the writing is the one I’m always going to put over the other two.  Again: I will get back to the other stuff soon.  But for now, I need to write before I can revise, and that’s a whole lot more important to me (and to you) for now.

In the meantime, if you’re new to this world, please don’t forget to check out my short story collection mentioned above, as well as Clade Josso and Old Veltmy first two novels in the Vein Epic.  And as always, let me know what you think!

Well, on to writing.  I’ll be posting again in the next week, so keep checking back here for more updates!

And remember: Never wear the red Starfleet uniform tunic.  EVER

See you in the Vein!

J. Dean

EDIT: Almost forgot.  I mentioned Bowl Games in the title and didn’t even discuss this one!  I’m pleased that my Michigan Wolverines are facing off against South Carolina, even though this is going to be a very tough game to win.  How are you guys liking you teams’ bowl games?  Feel free to share!
