Greetings, Bearers!

I can’t stay long as I’m going to be working my tail feathers off for the next few days, but if for some reason I don’t get to communicate with you in the next week, I wish all of you a happy Thanksgiving and many bountiful blessings from our Creator!  May your turkey be cooked and your football team successful!

Before I forget, here is a LINK for Alternate Endings, which will take you to the Smashwords, Amazon, and Barnes and Noble for your preferred  version.  Check it out!

Also, before signing off, I want to say a big “Thank you” to those who have bought my books in the past few weeks!  Let me know what you think!

Okay, back to work.  Back to more writing, more editing, and more hoping that Nebraska stumbles along the way so that my Wolverines can get back in the race for the Big Ten Championship!

See you in the Vein!

Greetings, Bearers!

And now, after many hours, days, weeks, and months of intense labor, I’m pleased to inform everybody that the wait is finally over!   Alternate Endings, my latest short story collection, is now available on Smashwords!  I can’t tell you how relieved I am to have finally finished this one, especially after having received such a great looking cover from Sanjana Bajinath and wanting to share it with all of you.  It’s been a long time in the preparation (too long, I would say), but it’s up and ready now for you to enjoy.

If you prefer your ebooks from Amazon or Barnes and Noble, don’t fret; AE will be coming soon to those sites as well; hopefully before the weekend is over.  My goal is to have it fully available from all outlets before Halloween descends upon us, so that you can treat yourselves to a nice little bedtime scare when you cuddle up with your eReader at night!

With that being done, my next focus is finishing the cleanup The Summoning of Kran in order to have it available by Christmas, as well as putting more time into the fourth Vein novel and setting aside time for another collection of short stories as well.  Although the Vein novels will always be my chief love and primary project, the short story venue is a nice outlet for those quirky ideas in my head that wouldn’t fit in the land of the Meridian.  And hey, who doesn’t like quirky?

(Okay, my wife isn’t crazy about quirky, but other than that…)

So enjoy!  I hope you take as much pleasure in reading the stories as I did in writing them.  Let me know what you think, too!

See you in the Vein!

Greetings, Bearers!

So the waning days of summer are upon us.  Hard to believe fall is just around the corner.  On the one hand I’m happy, because it means that football is starting up: college (Go Blue!), pro (Go Pack Go!) and my son’s Upward flag football league (Go… Titans!?).  But on the other hand, it also means that I’m school-bound again.  Back to the classroom grind 😦

But on another good note that won’t require me to think about teaching right now, Alternate Endings is on its way to being done!  That’s right: soon my collection of short stories will be finished, and I hope to get it out to you in the next month or two.  I’m shooting for the beginning of October at the very latest, but am working my tail off to get it done before then.  One of the funny things about writing that I’ve  learned is that the deadline you set isn’t always the deadline you make.  I don’t know if that’s something unique to me, or if other authors have this trouble, but it’s not fun.  That being said, it’s good to get the work done, and get the stories to you.

As a little treat, I’m also including a short story which serves as a backdrop for the upcoming third novel in the Vein series The Summoning of Kran.  Think of it as a bonus in addition to the other stories included in the collection!

Also, I’m announcing a price change.  As of October 1st, I will be upping the price of my books to $2.99.  Looking at the marketplace, I’m seeing other books go for that much, some of them containing far shorter novels and stories than what I am writing (That’s not a negative criticism by the way; just an observation).  However, as I like to be given fair warning before experiencing drastic changes, I would like to give all of you (and in particular you who have downloaded free samples of the books) some time to get the books before the price raise comes, so if you go to My book links on Smashwords or Amazon between now and September 31st, you’ll still have a chance to buy the first two novels in the Vein for 99 cents!

So take advantage while you still can of the low price, because starting October the deal will be gone! 😀

Okay, back to writing and editing.  Next week I intend to put out another entry in the Vein Omnibus, so watch for it!  And get ready for some football, folks!

See you in the Vein!

Greetings, Bearers!

I come with great news.  Unfortunately, I was hoping to have better news, but my Michigan Wolverines were bested by Purdue last Saturday, so that dampened my spirits for a little bit.  Oh well, we can’t win em all.  At least the Rugby Game I caught on TV Friday night made up for it; Go Worcester!

I’d like to introduce to you to cover artist Sanjana Baijnath, with whom I will be working to set up the cover for Alternate EndingsHERE is a link to her site, with some well-done fantasy artwork.  When I told her about the idea for my cover, she seemed to like it, so I can’t wait to see what she can do with the concept!

Enjoy, and see you in the Vein!

Greetings, Bearers!

Alas, all is not well in my world today.  That being said, neither is all lost.

I know I’ve been hyping it up with the upcoming book cover that I was supposed to have ready for you guys to see.  Unfortunately, it didn’t work out.  Due to some problems that came up and did not get resolved, the cover for Alternate Endings has to be put on hold for just a little while longer.  Let me say at the outset that I appreciate the time Kim at Hot Damn Designs gave me, and I wish her the best in her future endeavors.

Now, with that being said, I’ve been delivered a few names for a few other designers, all of whom have produced very good works of art, and I’ve already contacted a couple of them.  I don’t want to say too much right now, as nothing is set in stone, but once I get some more things ironed out, hopefully the cover will be back on track.. no pun intended (you’ll see what I mean about that later on 😉 ).  When I get some more info, I’ll be getting back to you guys on it.

And while I’m thinking about it, I once again want to extend a hearty welcome to those of you who are new Bearers!  Please enjoy the books as well as the short stories and poems on Smashwords, and let me know what you think via comments!

See you in the Vein!

Greetings, Bearers!

Hopefully all of you (or at least all of you in the States) had a great Thanksgiving, with much to be thankful for and much to eat.  I certainly had my share of food last Thursday, especially with regard to the multiple pieces of pie I ingested.   Let me tell you: if you’ve never had a chocolate pecan pie, you really need to do so.  Just make sure you exercise more self-control than I did! 😀

My Packers remain on top with an 11-0 season, and my Wolverines finished strong with a 10-2 record, including a fantastic win over that school from Ohio.  I couldn’t have been more thankful in that regard, and for those of you who love the gridiron as much as I do, hopefully the past weekend found you sitting well with your teams in both college and pro!

Well, I was hoping to give you an update from Kim regarding my cover, but unfortunately she has not yet gotten back to me.  No doubt she’s probably pretty busy, so I’m not worried about it.  Blame it on me being neurotic.  So until I have a cover to show to you, I’ll keep writing and working, editing and finishing works, and sharing my progress with you.

Speaking of which… I plan on putting up another short story excerpt from Alternate  Endings in the next few days, provided my editor gets things in order.  And if she doesn’t… well, I’ll just have to take things into my own hands.

Somebody had better call the fire department 😀

Okay, back to work for me.  Keep reading and rooting for the teams!

See you in the Vein!

J. Dean

Greetings, Bearers!

My short story collection is almost finished.  I’m waiting on the cover to show up, and have to say that I’m getting more and more excited by the day.  When the cover shows up, you who frequent this site will be the first to see it.  I hope to hear from you about your thoughts regarding the cover when it’s up!

Alas, I must report some sad news: as part of the story collection, I will be including my free short stories, and as a result I intend to take down two of the three stories, Fraidy-Cat and 10:15 , from Smashwords.com (I will leave Nick up there for perusal, as well as my poems and, of course, the novels).  So if you’d like to check out my free stuff while it lasts, check out the links above to read the stories, before they go.

I have to admit, I’m pleased with the readership of the short stories.  They’ve gotten many downloads, and it’s pleasing to see so many people get enjoyment from the material put out there.  If you liked what’s already been offered, then I’m sure you’ll like Alternate Endings when it’s finished up.  The stories are fresh and new, and will be sure to entertain!

Okay, no more yakking.  Back to work for me!

See you in the Vein!

Greetings, Bearers!

Great news: my short story collection, Alternate Endings, is almost done.  I’m finishing up a few touches to a couple of the stories, after which I’ll get them edited, slap a cover on them (more on that in a moment), and have them ready for ebook readers to peruse and enjoy!

I’ve just finished up communication with the cover designer (Yes, a professional one who can do a whole lot better than me), and she got back to me saying she’ll be getting to work on it after a convention.  I’m hyped about this, and will have something for you to see as soon as it comes my way.

As for the Vein series, that’s coming along as well.  I’ve written a LOT on The Summoning of Kran and will be setting up the Vein Omnibus in the next couple of months, which is a glossary of the people, places, and things found in the world of the Vein.  One of the things I admired about writers like J.R.R. Tolkien was the care he took to keep continuity and depth in his stories and worlds, and I want to bring that same sort of “life” to all of you in my works.  It makes the stories more enjoyable, and it makes my work worthwhile.  So the Omnibus is on its way as well.

And of course I want to give a shout to those of you who have stepped into the world of the Vein for the first time in purchasing my books.  Thank you for doing so, and I hope you enjoy what you read.  Be sure to check out my free short stories on Smashwords.com and spread the word about them!

Okay, back to work.  Everybody look busy!

See you in the Vein
